The Chintalachararuvu model draws from the knowledge of cuff electrode encapsulation that we covered earlier. A schematic representation used in the simulations is shown, with the cross section shown above the longitudinal section.
The simulation model comprises a unifascicular, 3mm diameter anisotropic nerve surrounded by a perineurium with, two layers of connective tissue; one loose connective tissue layer and a tight connective tissue layer, a 50µm saline layer trapped between the connective tissue and the cuff, the electrode embedded on the inner surface of the cuff and a 1mm insulating cuff surrounded by a 20mm saline layer.
