Field steering can be a very useful tool when stimuli applied to an electrode contact results in an unwanted side-effect before the desired response can be effected. I want to draw your attention to the application of anodic steering in this animation. Let’s say that activation of the 20 µm axons in the region of the lower contact lead to an unwanted response. We can push the excitation boundary away by increasing the magnitude of the steering current.
